Easter is Coming!

03/14/2019
We’re all looking forward to the Easter bank holiday weekend and treating ourselves and our family to some chocolate Easter eggs!
Chocolate consumption at Easter is higher than any other time of year so here is some advice to keep you and your family’s teeth and gums healthy over the holidays!
It is mainly how often, not how much sugar is consumed that is most important
- Try to keep sweet treats to mealtimes only
- Stop eating chocolate/sweets at least one hour before bed
- Dark chocolate often contains less sugar than milk chocolate so may be a better choice
- Water is the best drink after eating chocolate
- Try chewing sugar free gum after eating, it helps to neutralise plaque acid. Look for gum containing Xylitol as it can help to decrease tooth decay.
- Fluoride Mouthwash after meals (at a different time to brushing) also helps to prevent decay.
- Keep up with a good oral hygiene routine: brush teeth for 2 minutes twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and use floss or interdental brushes daily. Brushing before bed is especially important.
Remember that looking after your teeth and gums is a big part of looking after your general health and eating healthily and sensibly is an important habit to maintain all year round!
We hope you have a very Happy Easter!
